How to Draw Mandala Art

Mandalas have existed for many centuries as part of spiritual traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism. Mandala art is one of the easiest hobbies to pick up. A pencil or a drawing pen, a piece of paper is all you need to explore this wonderful world of art. There is no guidelines or rules which tells how a mandala should be drawn, you can draw whatever comes to your mind. As you get better in this art, you can start incorporating other art techniques like color pencils or watercolors to add another dimension to your Mandala art.

Materials required for Mandala Art.

  • Drawing Pen(preferably 0.2mm) in multiple colors.
  • Regular Pencil
  • Paper
  • Compass and protractor.
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Watercolor, Color Pencils (Optional)
Once your have your supplies ready. Choose the shape of the mandala you would like to draw, On the internet you would have mostly seen circular mandalas, but you can draw mandalas in any shape yo u want. Once you have identified what shape your Mandala needs to be measure the sides of your paper and identify the center of it.

Now using the ruler and compass draw grid lines in angles of 30, 60, 90,120, 180.. to 360 from the center. Now time to let you mind draw whatever it wishes to do. Play around drawing concentric circles, or circles with centers in intercepting points or any shape your mind chooses. Once you have the basic form drawn with a pencil, go ahead and redraw it with the drawing pen. Erase the remaining lines with a eraser.

Now, its time to fill in the details. You can draw minor motifs or pebble like circles, hashes, parallel lines whatever you are in mood. As I said earlier, no rules so let your mind take over and draw whatever it wants to draw. If you need inspiration, checkout google images for Mandala art and there are tons of mandalas available.
